Manic depression
When people discuss bi-polar disorder they refer to a condition known as manic depression. Bi-Polar people exhibit sudden changes from a very excellent mood to a very terrible mood. It is just another in the many forms of depression. Manic depression isn’t just having negative feelings over a negative event. Manic depression is a much more serious condition. The diagnosis of being Bi-Polar is just another stage of the disease of depression. Manic depression is diagnosed in millions of cases each year in America. Typically, some type of depression yearly affects around 17 million Americans.
Unfortunately only about1/3 of those will be diagnosed and receive help. Nothing can be cured if the victim doesn’t go for help. Many Americans are hesitant to confront a disease that is categorized as a mental illness. Being crazy isn’t something people want associated with themselves? Brain diseases are generally quite complex. It is hard to shake the stigma that comes with the diagnosis. But, as with any form of depression, the affliction does not make you less a person. It doesn’t mean you’re insane. This is a disease like any other. Now that it’s found, the process of treatment can start.
The causes of all forms of depression are still being examined in the medical profession. There are many factors that bring on depression. It’s well known that consideration must be given to chemical factors, a person’s surroundings, and even their genes. We know that it seems to be caused by a chemical imbalance on the brain. Depression is also brought about by stress. Daily life brings stress, period. It can be problems at work, in our relationships with those we like or facing the reality of trying to survive week to week. Depression does not play favorites. It’s a disease for rich people and for poor people. It doesn’t care about race. No color or nationality is free from this illness.
There are similar symptoms no matter the type of depression. These include mood swings from pleased to sad and serious personality switches. The advent of sleeplessness is another sign of depression. If you have no hope, feel helpless or desperate, that could be depression. Depression is real when it interferes with your ability to live your life. There is hope for depression sufferers. You can find help. Prescription medications as well as natural herbs can cure it. There are also medical professionals that can help your illness through ‘talk therapy’. Support groups can also be helpful for those with manic depression. The first step in the cure is seeking the help.
