Many people watch court shows on television.  Courts also feature in dream analysis.  Courts help people resolve situations.  A court in a dream means resolution, problems end.  But the court could also be a sign of something negative.  Judgment and conflict are negatives for a lot of folks. That could be expressed in the dream.

A boy called Billy wakes up after a nap. He wears cowboy clothes. He’s very pleased. His mom questions why he is smiling He says that during his nap he saw his dream horse. The horse told Billy that he would go for a ride when he sleeps at night. Billy couldn’t wait for bedtime.

The mother becomes a bit alarmed. She wants Billy to tell her about the dream horse. She didn’t reckon Billy took naps anymore. Billy told his mother that a friend from school named José told him about the siestas they take in Spain. Billy loved speaking in a new language.

Billy was nervous for the night. He questioned if sunglasses could bring the night sooner. His mom said no. Later, when Billy’s father comes home, Billy’s sister questions if she can have a dream horse. Billy’s father was amazed at his son’s imagination.

Billy speaks of the dream horse all day. It’s name is Pal. He promised the whole family he would bring them feathers from his dream. He quickly fell asleep.

When Billy was sleeping the dream horse nudged him in the arm and told him it was time for the ride. They went from the mountainous area around Billy’s home, to farm country. By the way, Pal could glide.

Very soon the dream horse mentioned that they were traveling in time. Some of the horse’s friends would join them. The horse’s friends are Indians who invite Billy to ride with them. The Indian was Spirit Chief of all the Indian nations. Each Indian with him represented one of the tribes that roamed America before the Europeans came.

Billy and the dream horse go with the Indians as they look around the country. He sees the Buffalo that once were abundant. The Spirit Chief urges Billy to take to heart what they’ve shown him. The Spirit Chief then removes three feathers from his headdress. He gives them to Billy knowing that he promised to bring them back for his family.

Billy’s parents tell them it was only a dream when he tells them about his experience with the dream horse. But then he pulls out the feathers. They’re flabbergasted. The tale is pretty incredible.

The Greeks and Egyptians believed dreams were communications from the gods.  Astrologers and soothsayers performed dream interpretation.  There were temples in ancient Greece where people could go to be cured of various conditions.  It was believed that the gods would cure them with divine grace delivered through dreams.  A priest attended the temple to help people determine the meaning of their dreams, and thus the intended cures from the gods.  Egyptian priests studied dream interpretation.  The Bible tales show Joseph interpreting dreams for the Pharaoh. Dream interpreters are even depicted in some hieroglyphics.  

Dream analysis was an obsession of Freud.  He published a book in 1899 called The Interpretation of Dreams.  He held that dreams contained inner wishes and desires.  He also believed that dreams were always about the events of the previous day.  Freud developed the concept of the inner censor as the regulating part of the mind that communicated through dreams.  He later changed the name to the super ego.

Freud talked about people’s abilities to resist things.  In other words when they are awake they self censored themselves.  People keep careful control over what they do and even what they reckon.  The often weird nature of dreams is due to the fact that the filters are still in place even when people sleep.  When performing dream interpretation Freud referred to a set of rules he had compiled for the way people change or filter dream images.  He could then tell what the images meant.  

Freud believed nightmares had nothing to do with dread or terrible events.  Rather, they were an expression of the ego’s frustration at being suppressed. It’s well known that a Freud dream interpretation would often include sexual conclusions.  But Freud himself expressed frustration that his work with dream interpretation was often wrongly applied to this result.

Dream interpretation can be an fascinating leisure activity.

Free dream analysis  wasn’t part of these practices.  Kings paid these priests handsomely.  If they didn’t work directly for kings they had their own temples.  Visiting the temples would involve some type of donation, or even a sacrifice.  It’s not much different from the modern world in which psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists charge people to talk about their problems.  This often includes dreams.

The Internet is a valid source of free dream analysis.  It can be found in a Dream Dictionary.  It provides details of many dream elements, organized into categories.  But the largest category on the site is a general category for everything that didn’t make it into one of the specific categories.  Items here could include events, sports, or even spirituality.  It’s simple to find nearly anything you’ll see in a dream.

Free dream analysis tells us that hurt is significant in a dream.  Hurt could be associated with a storm witnessed in a dream.  Perhaps a meteor shower takes out a small town.  It means injury and loss.  That’s pretty consistent with what people reckon of hurt.  But it can also have a positive meaning.  Often before something can be built or made something else must be ruined.  So in this sense hurt in the dream could mean that the person experiencing it is ready to go on, ready to rebuild.

There’s a photo called innocent dream posted on.  It consists of blue flowers in the foreground with their leaves blurred in the background. It looks like an HD photograph.   HD is a process by which a photo is made to seem crisper and brighter. It was quite well loved as can be seen in the many positive comments.  The poster questions, are all your dreams innocent?  The conclusion drawn is that if you claim your dreams are innocent you must not be telling the truth.

Flickr has many photos with names similar to innocent dream.  One of them is a photo taken from a low angle of the Dark Duomo.  That is a cathedral in Italy. Mark Twain wrote about it.  There’s also a photo of a boy at the Ganges River.  A poem accompanies the photo; the poem describes an overflowing river and a boy with an umbrella.  The poem goes on to discuss the boy’s thoughts.  The boy in the picture doesn’t have an umbrella.

Innocent dream is also the name of an artist who posts images online.  This person’s art includes haunting drawings of children.  They’re done in a pseudo-manga style.  There are 24 images in his gallery at deviant Art.  Not all of them are of people.  One appears to be a Picasso of some scrolls.  Another is a stylized painting of brushes.  That’s something of a self-portrait.

Many people reckon pornography is the main purpose of the Internet.  Innocent dream seems to verify this.  It’s the name of a pornography portal site.  It includes links to many other sites.  This isn’t material appropriate for children.  Some of it in fact is quite raw and unpleasant to view.

Animals in dreams can be very significant.  This category has nearly every animal you can reckon of. An alligator for instance represents primordial dread.  It’s a caution, a warning against making snap decisions.  If there are ants in the dream, represents hard work and business success.  There’s no mention about ants eating the dreamer.  If an elephant is in your dreams, that represents wisdom and persistence.  Keep at a hard task.  Lice mean worrying – You probably no why.

Calendars in dreams have a lot to do with the meaning of dreams.  The first month, January, equals financial gain.  It might also be trying to tell you that a friend isn’t what he appears to be.  December can mean losing a friend but also becoming wealthy.  April refers to something excellent just ahead.  But if the dream includes terrible weather along with this vision of April, there could be troubling times ahead.

Body parts are significant in the meaning of dreams.  Dreaming of an ankle means there’ll be distress followed by a success. Don’t be discouraged.  People who dream about cheeks expect a long, prosperous life.  Fingers are the tool people use to connect with the world.  So dreaming of a finger is a sign of feeling and caring.  When you wake up go learn something about your surroundings.  Each body part has its own unique meaning.

The meaning of dreams can indeed be found by observing all the objects seen in a dream.

First let’s look at the novel.  Four people feature prominently.  These are Harry Marion, Tyrone and Sara.  Harry and Marion are a couple.  Tyrone is friends with both of them.  Sara is Harry’s mother.  Each of them becomes obsessed with gaining their dream.  The dream leads them to addiction, and pretty horrible lives.  Sara wants to be on television.  She binges on diet pills to lose weight after a casting company hints that she might be selected.  She ends up hospitalized.  Harry, Marion, and Tyrone meanwhile make money by selling heroin.  But they’ll become addicted to the drug they seek to sell.  Everyone’s life is ruined.

In the movie mother and son, Sara and Harry, are the main characters along with Marion and Tyrone.  It’s the same as in the novel.  It all happens in three seasons – summer, fall, winter.

Sara likes to watch infomercials.  She also overeats.  She realizes this makes her stout.  But her life gains new purpose when the producers of the infomercial call her to tell her she may be on the infomercial.  She vows to fit into the red dress she once wore to Harry’s graduation.  To accomplish this she goes on a crazy diet.  When that doesn’t work she sees a doctor who prescribes amphetamines.  She soon becomes addicted.  Signs of this addiction are overly pleased personality, and constantly grinding her teeth.

Harry and Tyrone choose to deal drugs.  They want to one day be able to score a pound of heroin.  Harry promises Marion he will buy here a clothing store with the money.  Tyrone simply wants enough money to earn a life off the street.

Sara’s addiction is even worse in the fall.  She’s taking more and more, but it isn’t working.  She hallucinates about appearing on the infomercial.  Harry and Tyrone run afoul of the police.  Most of the money they have earned in the summer is used for Tyrone’s bail.  Not only does it become increasingly hard to find quality heroin, but they themselves use more and more of what they buy. 

The end of the movie is very sad.  Winter is the worst season for everyone in the movie.  Harry is hospitalized after plunging from a roof top,  Sara is institutionalized, Tyrone is in jail, and Marion is hopelessly addicted to heroin.  Everyone except Harry ends up hallucinating a fantasy world.

Requiem for a Dream is pretty accurate in its depiction of addiction.

A Google search is a fantastic way to learn about something.  Sleep dreams brings up a lot of fascinating pictures.  A tattoo web site has a weird image to offer.  It depicts a baby near an ocean and a forest, overlooked by a lighthouse. It describes the jumble of many dreams.  Individually they make small sense.  Someone would be hard pressed to determine their relationship to each other.  But someone who is somewhat skilled in interpreting dreams could tell you exactly what the images mean.

Another photo that comes up for the search term sleep dreams is of a woman sleeping.  She has electrodes on her head.  Her dreams are being studied.  The image goes with a piece about new revelations in dreaming.  People who miss sleep will often have more dreams.  A excellent night’s sleep the day after not sleeping will likely include a lot of dreams.  Sleep deprivation leads to a deeper sleep. Now people who want to dream have a way to ensure they do dream.

Google shows a cartoon about sleep dreams.  Here more of the jumbled dream imagery is seen.  It shows a small girl sleeping in her bed.  Next to the bed is a tree where the heads of various animals grow.  Standing on top of her head board is a bird and a tiny house with legs.  There is a fish in the bed next to her.  There’s an owl with tentacle arms at the foot of the bed.  The bed floats in the sky.  What looks like a satellite, and some shooting stars, pass by.  It’s not a dark drawing.  The girl seems to be enjoying her pleasant dream.

Another image for sleep dreams is also a cartoon drawing.  It’s a man in bed.  We know he was cold.  He has a radiator over him like covers.  In real life not only would it be too heavy for him to lift, but he would be severely burned.
